Burglary and Its Impact
The incident occurred on November 12 at the Pride Fitness center. Wood River Police were quick to investigate, and through their diligent work, 45-year-old Steven J. Kuklinski from Huntsville, Illinois, was identified as the suspect and arrested on Tuesday in Belleville, Illinois. The burglary had a significant impact on the local charitable event, as the bucket of cash usually donated to help local children have Christmas toys was now missing.
Owner Todd Laux was understandably concerned about the fate of the fundraiser. But as luck would have it, the bucket was filled to the brim on Thanksgiving thanks to the generous efforts of supporters who heard about the break-in and donated over ,000. Community Response on Thanksgiving
More than 160 people showed up on Thanksgiving to work out and raise funds for Shop with a Cop. Despite the cost of participating in the annual fundraiser workout at the gym being , many donated twice that amount. Todd Laux expressed his gratitude, saying, "Every year at Thanksgiving, we give that bucket, and this year it was as full as it could be. The generosity of our community has truly touched our hearts." The holiday workout became a symbol of hope and unity in the face of adversity.
Police Appreciation
Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells commended the efforts of his officers and detectives in bringing the suspect to justice. He thanked Belleville Police and U.S. Marshals for their assistance in apprehending Steven J. Kuklinski. The successful collaboration between different law enforcement agencies highlighted the importance of teamwork in solving crimes.
Kuklinski is currently confined in the county jail and charged with burglary in Madison County. A trial date has not been set, but the community remains hopeful that justice will be served.
