"One of my sons is still at home with us, and I'm working so hard to support him because he wants to pursue a career. He wants to go to college, so that's his dream, it's my dream too," she shared. The new facility will provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to help food vendors like De Leon achieve their entrepreneurial aspirations and support their families.

In 2021, a tragic incident occurred when food vendor Lorenzo Perez was shot and killed in Southeast Fresno after a man posed as a customer and attempted to rob him in broad daylight. Perez was the second vendor to be killed and the sixth to be robbed over the course of a year, highlighting the precarious nature of their work.Islas emphasizes the importance of creating a secure environment for these hardworking individuals.
